Ceremonies
While there is a long history of pet graveyards in people's gardens, this is not an option that is suitable for everyone. Whether you do choose to bury your pet at home, to arrange for cremation and later scatter or inter the ashes, or to have your pet's ashes returned to you in some form of commemorative object, Heartsease can help you arrange an appropriate ceremony.
WHAT ARE THE CEREMONIES LIKE?
Ceremonies can be arranged to suit your preferences; generally they consist of some opening words which acknowledge your sorrow and the need to say a final goodbye, followed by a tribute to your pet, which can include the pet's life story, particular characteristics that were loved, and a sharing of any special memories. Some people like to have music, or readings of poetry and prose, or to involve symbolic gestures such as lighting a candle in memory of the pet.
I'M NOT RELIGIOUS, DOES THAT MATTER?
Not in the least, ceremonies do not need to include any religious references if you don't want them. Plenty of funerals for human beings do not involve religion. If you do have a religious faith then you can include specific readings, hymns or songs, or an interlude for prayer during the ceremony.
CAN I/WE/OUR GUESTS PARTICIPATE IN THE CEREMONY?
Yes, a celebrant-conducted ceremony can include a space for anyone who has a particular memory or comment to share, to do so. You or your family members or guests can also give readings or indeed sing songs or play tunes if you would like to do so.
